Gratitude Group Makes the Local Press
Our students' efforts to collect hygiene donations for the homeless got a write up in the local papers, The Spirit and Our Town. Our Gratitude Groups have been a wonderful way to stay connected to each other and to our community this year.
"Is This Love"
While Mr. Edwards's Kindergarten class sings "Is This Love," see images from our winter drive for the homeless: Parents donated hygiene supplies and our students created Care Kits. They were delivered to the Homeless Coalition who will give these much needed supplies to homeless in the streets and in shelters.
Chinese New Year Celebrations
The Chinese language students at the International Academy of New York often collaborate on larger format art projects. Here, some of our first and second graders create a collage with a nod to Henri Matisse, and then some of our 4th and 5th graders do calligraphy to celebrate the Lunar New Year. They all wish you health and happiness in the Year of the Ox!
Note of Appreciation
Distance Learning isn't easy! This note from a parent is so appreciated:
"What these teachers did to set up for remote learning this week is nothing short of amazing. The care they put into planning their curriculum, the organizing they did of all their materials, and the clear communications are such a relief, especially for a working parent trying to make this work. Their skill, their dedication, their love for this work is inspiring and I’m grateful everyday that my children’s learning is in their virtual care."
Staying Safe
After the holidays, everyone in our school was tested for COVID-19, and all the results came back negative. We have our entire community to thank for remaining vigilant about health protocols, allowing us to continue in-person learning.
First School Newspaper!
Our 4th and 5th Graders took it upon themselves to launch a school newspaper and now, the first edition of "90th Street News" is published! The students worked hard with interviews, editorial, and layout with supervision and assistance from Ms. Siddiqui and Mr. Schwed. Take a peek inside to read the stories about our school opening, interviews with teachers, poetry and songs in Spanish and Chinese, health tips, sneaks peeks into our pods, the Thankful Diary and a special interview with Ms. Nasreen. 90th St. News Issue #1

Performance at the CGCC Gala 2019
We were honored to be asked to participate in the annual gala for the China General Chamber of Commerce. Seven of our Chinese language learners performed traditional songs and our music teacher Jiaoyue Lyu played piano in front of a crowd of more than 400 attendees. This was a global awards ceremony celebrating meaningful relationships between the US and China. Click here to see the performance.
Music Video Premiere!
A few of our Chinese language students from Pre-K and Grade 2 worked hard last spring to learn a popular song by the group S.H.E. The result is this remarkable music video, which also features our Chinese music teacher, Jiaoyue Lyu, playing the guqin. We gathered for the premiere on September 21st. Well done!
